Dugger

Fuck.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

I don’t know whether to thank whoever is at my door for interrupting what could have been a huge career mistake or kick their ass for interrupting the hottest moment of my life.

I pull away from Ember just as her legs release, and I help her gently to the ground, kissing her forehead before pulling the waistband of my pants up. I step back and assess her, realizing that my shirt is way longer on her than I’d like it to be.

“I need to go clean up,” she says, trying to hide her disappointment at the interruption.

I try to smile, but it is hard since my disappointment is worse than hers. “I’ll bring you your suitcase so you can get dressed.”

She nods and walks to my bedroom. I like that. I want her to enter my bedroom all the time. No, really, I want her to enter the one time and never leave.

I run my fingers through my hair quickly on the way to the door. Opening it, I find a smirking Bryan, holding my backpack, my duffle, and rolling Ember’s suitcase behind him.

“What? Are ye not happy to see me, Dugger man?” Bryan teases, laying his Irish accent on thick.

He knows. God dammit, he fucking knows.

“Actually, you have pretty good timing.”

His smile grows and he leans in to me, lowering his voice. “Judging by what I heard when I came to the door ten minutes ago, I would have ruined a good time. So I figured I’d give ye time to finish.”

Fuck.

“It’s not what you think.”

His head nods downward at my not-quite-completely-deflated dick. “Right.” He flashes a shit-eating grin at me while he pushes past me into the house. “But don’t worry,” he assures, clapping my shoulder, “your secret’s safe with me.”

Raising my eyebrow at him, I feel the need to admit, “We didn’t exactly have sex.”

“Hey, ye don’t have to convince me, boy. Remember, you’re talking to a guy who had a secret affair with a coworker, one who happened to be a famous client’s lesbian girlfriend, and on top of that, I got her pregnant, so there’s absolutely no judgement here.”

I liberate our luggage from his hands.

“I’ll be right back.”

I take our stuff to my bedroom and knock on the door. It opens a crack, and I hand off her suitcase. She doesn’t make eye contact before closing the door. I don’t like that at all. I dump my bags by the door so I can deal with the smug Irishman and get rid of him before I make things right with her.

“Look, Bryan, Noah made it crystal clear –”

“That you’re not to have sex with a client,” he nods. “Yeah, I know, but he’s a bit of a hypocrite, if ye ask me. His girlfriend was a client of ours. In fact, she still is.”

I scratch my head. “He told me she wasn’t a client until after they got together.”

“Well, that’s a bit of bull shite. We were protectin’ her way before they made it official.
